How can a patient and nurse effectively interact and communicate when that patient has a tracheostomy?

A patient and nurse can effectively interact and communicate when that patient has a tracheostomy thorugh "lip - reading", this is one ability that the nurse must have in order for him/her to understand the patient. Other devices such as speaking valves are implemented to allow the patients to talk freely.
