The appalacian mountains lined the western border of the thirteen colonies, therefore the colonies were forced to the coast along rhe atlantic ocean which was a hardship due to the fact that trading could only happen by ship, by water and no land. There was also possibility that any could raid, bombard, and pillage the land by sea.
