The male urethra connects the urinary bladder to the penile meatus for the excretory/urinary system for metabolic waste (urine) excretion, and it also connects to the vas deferens via the prostate for the reproductive (ejaculatory) tract. Thus at different times (sexual ejaculation vs. micturition/urination) the male urethra carries both semen and urine, respectively.
