The two New York State landscape regions that have surface bedrock that was formed about 1000 million years ago are the Adirondack Mountains and the Hudson Highlands (1).
The Adirondack Mountains is a group of mountains which was formed by the faults or fissures in the earth's crust. The mountain range is situated in a domed shape. The landscape or shape of the individual mountains in the range is influenced by glacial activity.
The Hudson Highlands are mountain ranges which are situated on both sides of the Hudson River.
